Timberwolves Diary: Wrapping Up Before Christmas

Team News
This weekend we have a 2 game weekend. We travel back to Campbellton Friday night to play our division rival in what is sure to be a good game at 7 at the Memorial Civic Centre. Last time we were there, we beat them 4-3 in a shootout thriller and led the division series 3 games to 1. 

Saturday night we are back home at the Miramichi Civic Centre, one of the top teams in the league, the Edmundston Blizzard. Last time we played them we lost 5-4 in overtime. With only playing them twice this year, we are split a game apiece between and are expecting a fast hard hitting game Saturday night at home.

Personal Update
This was a pretty easy week at school only having a few tests to do. Hoping for a good last week of school before the Christmas break and enjoying the time off!

High School Student of the Week

 

    Jamie is this week's high school student of the month.
He is in Mr. Norton's Physics class.  Mr. Norton nominated him because he always gives 100%.

Eagles Win Their First Game in NBIAA Northern Hockey League Play.

The Blackville Golden Eagles headed to PLM (Caraquet) to face off in the first game of the home and home on Tuesday, December 8. The boys were looking for redemption after a tough loss in the nest on Sunday, November 29. 

In the first, the boys were flying and scored two quick ones on the power play. Scoring in the first for the Eagles was Preston who cracked the goose egg and Macaully popped the second one for the Eagles. The Eagles lead after the first 20 minutes.

In the second, the boys were starting to get into penalty trouble half way through and throughout the rest of the game. PLM scored two goals, but the Eagles bounced back with goals coming from Caiden and Jacob scoring with 0.2 seconds remaining in the second period. The Eagles were leading 4-2 after the second.

In the third, Blackville struck first with another goal from Jacob. On the 5 on 3, PLM scored to regain momentum then followed with another one. As the third went on, the penalties kept coming, but BHS scored a sixth goal on a 4 on 4 coming from Jaden Vickers. PLM then scored with 5 minutes remaining in the third, but the Eagles held on to win the game by a score of 6-5. They are now 1-2 in NBIAA Northern Hockey league play.

The boys play the second game of the home and home tonight at 7:30 at the Tom Donovan Arena. The Eagles are looking for two in a row tonight. Come out and support your boys in blue.

Classes of the Month

For the month of November, three classes were chosen for class of the month, one from each of the following grade levels: K-2, 3-5, and 6-8. 

The K-2 class of the month for September was Mrs. L. Curtis's Kindergarten class. This class was recognized for following school policy and being kind and respectful to their other classmates, as well as teachers and other classes. They also demonstrated very good manners and always displayed a positive attitude.

The 3-5 class of the month was Madame. M. Hachey's 3/4 split. They were also chosen for following school rules and maintaining a friendly and well-mannered classroom environment. They constantly used their manners and always remained cheerful. 

The 6-8 class of the month was Mrs. P. Davidson's grade 8 class. Mrs. Davidson's class received the award for their great class attendance and strong ability to always be prepared for class.  The students in this class were continually on time and displayed kindness and consideration towards each other and all other classes.

Athletes of the Month

 Eden Lynch was chosen for November's Female Athlete of the Month. Eden is a hard worker and continues to show commitment to the senior girls basketball team. She has been consistently improving her skills throughout the season, and is not afraid to ask for help when needed. Congratulations, Eden!

The High School Male Athlete of the Month for November is Hudson Underhill. He always gives 100 percent effort and works hard to be a formidable opponent. Hudson's presence intimidates other teams and this makes him a great asset to the senior boys hockey team. Congratulations, Hudson!

"Hudson is a player that other teams hate to play against," said Mr. Norton, Staff Advisor to senior boys hockey. 

Timberwolves Diary: Big Division Rival Tilt

Team News
This weekend is a good and short weekend for us as we head to Campbellton for a Friday night game versus our division rival, the Tigers. This is the third time we are playing them spitting a hand apiece between them, but beating them 8-3 last time at home which was one of our best team games this year. 

This is the first time we are heading to Campbellton this year to play; it should be a good game and a little different playing on the Olympic-size ice. Either than that it is a pretty quiet weekend with just one game because our away game in Fredericton was canceled due to Fredericton still being in the orange zone, but that will be made up on a later date. 

There are many question marks around the league regarding what is going on and the limited number of the teams that can play, but, for us, we are lucky enough to play and are the only junior hockey league able to play in the Maritimes during the outbreak in the province. So we just got to wait and see what the league says, but make every game we play count - especially the ones versus our division rivals like Campbellton.

Personal Update
I have been back home for over a month now and things are finally starting to fall back into place, and I’m used to my new daily routine. Hoping to do well and finish strong in school and hockey before Christmas break.

Students Raise Over $500 for Christmas Giving Tree

Blackville School students raised over $500.00 on Thursday. Students donated $2.00 each so they could wear their pyjamas. 

The funds will go toward a District-wide effort to raise money for the Christmas Giving Tree hosted by 95.9 Sun FM radio station. 

This is the fifth year for the event and Max Aitken Academy made a special call out to other schools in the District because raising the necessary funds has been difficult with COVID-19 restrictions.

The Giving Tree provides a gift to 500 senior citizens who reside in nursings homes. The goal is to raise $5000.00.
